Golf handicap is a numeral used to measure the level of playing abilities of an armature golfer. The numeral basically measures the “net� scores a player actually got after performing the number of strokes in a single round.
Golf clubs or national golf associations administrate handicaps that allow players of dissimilar skill to play against each other on identical terms. But the rules may differ country to country.
A golfer with lower number of golf handicap is generally considered as a better golfer. Where a golfer with 0 or better handicaps is called “scratch� golfer. Golf Handicaps are also used to calculate the results of the game when two golfers with different handicaps play together. For example when a golfer with 2 golf handicap plays versus a golfer with 10 golf handicap, then the first participant deduct two strokes from his final score, while the other contestant deduct 10 strokes from his final scores so the wining participant can be selected.
The golf handicaps are treated as official only when, are documented by the higher-level organizations such as the United States Golf Association (USGA).
The formula for computing a golf handicap takes into account all the factors of the golf course on which the round was played to give more accurate representation of a golfer’s skill level.
To provide a better image, the method designed to calculate the golf handicap takes all the difficulties of the golf course into account where the round was played. For this reason, the United States Golf Association (USGA) allocates different slope rates to every single tee on each course.
The pre-set slope rating help the contestants to find the number of strokes played by a golfer at a particular course. The numbers can vary according to the difficulties of the course where the strokes were played.
